Hello World! Introducing the Bright Score

Hello World! Introducing the Bright Score

Hello, World! After 18 months and over 40,800 man-hours in development, today we unveil Bright.com and the Bright Score, the result of the largest scientifically controlled resume to job description trial in history. The Bright Score unlocks the power of artificial intelligence to identify and establish a one-to-one signal between job seekers and employers in the sea of online job-related noise.  The Bright Score is not just an innovation in online job search, it’s a mission to move the labor markets faster.

We are also announcing $6M in financing.

A decade ago, applying to a job was about a strong cover letter, a well-crafted resume, and perhaps a personal connection. Today, the Internet has democratized the application process to a point where jobseekers blindly submit six times the number of applications they did in the 1990s. The result is a flooded system that produces a staggering amount of data and makes it very difficult for strong candidates to be recognized by employers, and for companies to source top talent.

While on one extreme it can be argued that trades on electronic stock exchanges are perfectly efficient, a case can be made that the labor market is just the opposite: horribly inefficient. We believe Bright will change that, and we believe that there is a great job available for everyone who truly wants to be gainfully employed.

Over the last 18 months we’ve assembled a team of 15 data scientists and engineers, including three Ph.D.’s and four MIT graduates—people you might remember as the kids from high school that aced every exam and went on to the best colleges.  They are the ones behind the Bright Score, which we think will have a profound impact on hiring and the labor market in general.

The release of the Bright Score is a significant milestone for our company, but, similar to Google’s search in 1998, it is a machine learning algorithm that will continue to get better and stronger. We know we have much work to do, and we’re looking forward to the challenge.

But for today, we celebrate our release and thank the hundreds of people including talent recruiters, data scientists, engineers, employers, job seekers, investors, and all others that made this day possible.

Thank You!

The Bright Team

I applaud your working on finding postings more efficiently; how do you hope to proceed with making the hiring process more efficient with the reality that HR (as a profession) is 15 to 20 years behind leading sectors? Thanks.
